About the data layers

Data layers can be turned on or off using the 'Layers' feature on the map.

Layers can only be displayed one at a time so you may need to switch back and forth if you want to look at different layers.

Watershed boundaries show the Parker (northern watershed) and Ipswich (southern watershed) River watersheds
Hydrology for the Parker and Ipswich Rivers came from the NHDPlus dataset and was clipped to the extent of the Parker and Ipswich River watershed boundaries.

Land use layers were derived from the MassGIS Land Use (2005) dataset. Data were aggregated into five categories (Human [any impervious surfaces and active human consumption of surface land], Agriculture, Forest, Water/Wetland, Other) by combinging the following individual classifications:

CategoryClassifications Included
Human
Very low/low/medium/high density residential, multifamily residential, commercial, industrial, junkyard, powerline/utility, urban public/institutional, waste disposal
Agriculture
Cropland, nursery, orchard, pasture
Forest
Brushland/successional, forest, open land
Water/wetland
Forested/non-forested wetland, water
Other

Cemetery, mining, participation recreation, saltwater sandy beach, saltwater wetland, water-based recreation

After aggregation, individual land use layers were reduced in size by simplifying polygons using the point remove method with a maximum allowable offset of 100 meters for all layers but water/wetland that had a maximum allowable offset of 10 meters. Each layer was then exported as a KMZ file for use with the CrowdMap platform.
All data manipulation and analyses were performed in ArcMap V10.4.
